Govt to encourage private sector to use Gwadar Port

The cabinet has approved a proposal to enhance Gwadar Port’s role by gradually involving the private sector in import and export operations. In a recent meeting, the government also committed to transferring 60% of public sector imports and exports from Karachi Port to Gwadar. This strategic move will shift essential imports like wheat, fertilizer, and sugar through Gwadar, along with other commodities identified for public sector procurement. Additionally, a committee including key government officials has been formed to oversee the process, review infrastructure needs, and implement security measures. This initiative aims to establish Gwadar as a crucial hub, promoting regional development and offering an alternative to Karachi.
