CPEC Framework: Gwadar Municipal Committee Formulates Smart Environment Sanitation System

The Gwadar Municipal Committee (GMC), under the CPEC framework, has launched a $14 million Gwadar Smart Environment Sanitation System and Landfill Project to manage waste sustainably. The project includes waste collection, recycling, and dumping through advanced methods. Gwadar’s waste has surged from 5 tons daily in 2010 to over 20 tons in 2024, driven by urban growth. The system will utilize mechanical and manual cleaning, containerized collection, and door-to-door waste pickup. A focus on anaerobic fermentation aims to convert organic waste into biogas, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling companies may also partner to repurpose materials like metal, glass, and plastic, supporting Gwadar's sustainable development goals.
