China-funded forest flourishes in Pakistan's Gwadar as symbol of friendship

In Gwadar, Balochistan, Muhammad Iqbal oversees a thriving friendship forest, a project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Once a barren land, this vibrant forest now flourishes, thanks to over 4,000 trees planted with the help of the China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC). Iqbal, who has worked at Gwadar Port for 16 years, recalls the transformative vision of a Chinese manager who proposed the greening project. The forest not only beautifies the port area but also enhances the local climate, lowering ground temperatures. As dignitaries from various countries plant trees here, each sapling stands as a symbol of Pakistan's growing diplomatic ties with China and beyond, promoting environmental stewardship and local employment.
